Display of National Flag during National Day celebrations period

Displaying the National Flag during the National Day celebrations period (1 July to 30 September 2018)

  1. Singapore will celebrate its 53rd anniversary as an independent sovereign nation on 9 August 2018. The National Flag is Singapore’s most visible symbol of statehood, a symbol of our national unity and resilience.
  2. As such, we urge all organisations and households to fly the National Flag at their offices, building premises, and residential premises during the National Day celebrations period, 1 July to 30 September 2018. The Rules for flying the National Flag or displaying it are relaxed during this period, when the Flag may be flown without a flagpole and night illumination.
  3. Notwithstanding the relaxed rules, the Flag, as a national symbol, should continue to be treated with respect, and used in an appropriate and dignified manner. Torn or worn-out Flags should not be displayed, and should be packed into a sealed black trash bag before being disposed of. The full guidelines on the display and use of the Flag can be viewed here.
