Introduction
Good morning! It is my pleasure to join you at the launch of AltitudeX.
Government Support for Athletes in Emerging Sports
Previously iFly Singapore, this facility introduced indoor skydiving to Singaporeans, hosted world-class competitions, and most importantly, helped nurture young Singaporeans into world class athletes.
Kyra Poh and Choo Yi Xuan are two such athletes who started indoor skydiving in this very tunnel, and made history for Singapore when they were crowned World Cup gold medallists in 2018.
More recently, they set a world record time in one of their speed rounds, and also secured bronze at this year’s World Indoor Skydiving Championships.
Well done, Kyra and Yi Xuan!
The Government is committed to supporting our athletes to excel in a wide range of sports – including indoor skydiving.
That’s why we expanded the spexScholarship to include sports that are not included in Major Games such as the Olympics.
Kyra was the trailblazer of this expansion. She received holistic support from the High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI), including overseas and local training, and equipment she needs to compete at the highest level.
And the next generation is also following in her footsteps. At 16 years old, our 2025 Sportsboy of the Year, Kai Minejima-Lee, recently won four golds at the FlySpot Polish Open, beating 232 competitors from 22 different countries. Earlier this year, Kai became Singapore’s second spexScholar in indoor skydiving.
The Government is also committed to matching donations made to the Athletes’ Inspire Fund (AIF). This Fund supports athletes from emerging sports with financial support to represent Singapore in international competitions.
Corporate Support for Team Singapore
And we want to work together with individuals, corporates and community groups to support Team Singapore. Together, we can support our athletes to go further, and inspire more Singaporeans.
AltitudeX is one such key corporate partner. I want to thank Lawrence and the AltitudeX team for your strong support for our Team Singapore skydiving athletes. Your pledge of $200,000 worth of flight time annually for the next three years supports the next generation of Team Singapore indoor skydiving athletes.
Beyond supporting our elite athletes, AltitudeX has also pledged $150,000 worth of flight time annually over the next three years to bring the sport to the community.
Through partnerships with SG Enable, AWWA and the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), AltitudeX will provide persons with disabilities, underprivileged children, and caregivers the opportunity to experience indoor skydiving.
We are heartened by this collective effort to make Singapore a truly inclusive society by bringing sports to persons of all abilities and backgrounds. That is what Forward Singapore is about – to build a Singapore where everyone is valued and can move forward purposefully together as one Singapore.
We hope to continue to strengthen such partnerships and for all of us to work together to strengthen Singapore’s sporting ecosystem.
Singapore Brand with Global Ambitions
Today’s rebranding to AltitudeX also marks an important milestone for a homegrown company to establish its own brand and market presence, and its commitment to lead Asia in indoor skydiving, immersive attractions, and community driven sports development.
Conclusion
To Lawrence and the AltitudeX team, congratulations on this significant milestone.
Thank you for your continued support for Team Singapore athletes, and your commitment to community development.
I wish you every success in the journey ahead.
Thank you.
