A very good afternoon to you all. I am very happy to join you today to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Crocodile Foundation.
10 years is a remarkable milestone. What began as a heartfelt concern by the late Founders & Patrons Dato’ Dr. Tan Hian Tsin and his wife To’ Puan Dr. Tsao Sui Lan, to ease the struggles faced by the marginalised, has grown into a decade of heartfelt giving to society.
Where the Foundation stands today is a true testament to the dedication, generosity and compassion of its founders, patrons and like-minded individuals – people like yourselves – who have come together to build Crocodile Foundation. Over the years, the Foundation has touched countless lives and extended vital support to communities in need. Ten years is not just a number for Crocodile Foundation. Behind this milestone lies a story of unwavering commitment, tireless effort, and above all, a deep and genuine care for the community.
Today, we come together not just to mark the passage of time, but to celebrate the enduring impact of the Foundation’s work in uplifting lives and strengthening our social fabric.
Since 2016, Crocodile Foundation has supported the elderly, children at risk, and the underprivileged through community services and partnerships with various organisations. Beyond that, the Foundation has also uplifted victims affected by disasters and empowered less fortunate students through scholarships in nursing and allied healthcare. These scholarships – offered at both local and overseas universities – come with a unique expectation: that recipients give back to their community, and continue the cycle of care and service.
At the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, we firmly believe in building a more caring, cohesive and inclusive society where Singaporeans come together to support one another, and where a strong spirit of philanthropy takes root. As Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reminded us in his National Day Rally speech, we must build a “we-first” society where everyone moves forward together, and no one is left behind.
I am thankful that organisations like Crocodile Foundation stand ready to meet the evolving needs of our community, supporting our youths and guiding them towards fulfilling and meaningful careers.
Today, I am heartened to know that Crocodile Foundation is taking yet another step to continue its efforts in giving back to the community through the disbursement of grants to several of its key partners:
First, the National University of Singapore to support youth volunteerism for vulnerable and ageing communities;
Second, the Singapore Institute of Technology to support disadvantaged students in pursuing careers in caregiving and allied healthcare; and
Last but not least, the Singapore Table Tennis Association to nurture our next generation of local table-tennis talents.
These efforts are a strong reminder that meaningful progress is only possible through strategic partnerships and collaboration, as we work together to uplift lives and strengthen our community.
Looking ahead, I am confident that Crocodile Foundation will continue to expand its reach, bringing hope and support to even more individuals and communities.
And I look forward to seeing more corporates, organisations, and partners stepping forward so that we can do more and do better together – for our community and for Singapore.
On that note, congratulations once again to Crocodile Foundation on your 10th Anniversary, and I wish everyone an enjoyable afternoon of fellowship and celebration.
Thank you very much.
