Response to parliamentary question on increased ActiveSG gym usage during haze
2293. Assoc Prof Kenneth Goh: To ask the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (a) whether the recent increase in ActiveSG gym usage during the haze has resulted in capacity constraints or overcrowding; and (b) whether the Ministry will consider partnering with private indoor sports and fitness facilities to offer temporary subsidies or vouchers, expanding affordable exercise options during environmental disruptions such as haze.
Response:
ActiveSG gyms experienced a temporary usage increase of about 6% during the September to October 2026 haze period. Aside from this, we have not observed significant changes in gym usage patterns or capacity constraints.
Apart from ActiveSG gyms, there are other affordable indoor exercise options, such as in PA Community Clubs, and programmes and gyms for seniors by community stakeholders. SportSG will continue to work with stakeholders to provide affordable exercise options.
