Response to parliamentary question on participants, partners, and plans for Job Taster programmes
*2351. Mr David Hoe: To ask the Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (a) since the rollout of the Discover On My Way portal, what take-up rates and outcomes have been observed for its job taster programmes and company tours, including the (i) participants (ii) partner organisations and (iii) sectors covered; and (b) whether the National Youth Council (NYC) can consider further expanding such job taster programmes for junior college, polytechnic and ITE youths, to better facilitate their transition to work.
Response:
Take-up rates approximate 80% of the 11,000 job taster opportunities in 2025. 78% of the participants reported being more aware of the potential pathways to achieve their career goals. Other outcomes include being able to build professional connections, debunking myths about careers and industries, and feeling less pressured to decide on a career path.
National Youth Council worked with 35 corporate partners, youth sector organisations, and public sector agencies to create these opportunities. These span 14 different sectors such as Financial Services, Manufacturing, Hospitality, and Information and Communications. The job taster opportunities are available for all youths, including those studying in Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, and ITE.
MCCY and NYC are looking at how we can further expand opportunities for early career exposure. More details will be shared at the launch of the SG Youth Plan in end-July.
