Response to parliamentary question on annual data of Muslims in civil marriages and Muslim converts in Muslim marriages.
609. Mr Fadli Fawzi: To ask the Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth from 1 January 2000 to 23 October 2025 (a) what is the annual number of marriages registered with the Registry of Marriages involving a Muslim person broken down by gender; and (b) what is the annual number of marriages registered with the Registry of Muslim Marriages involving a recent Muslim convert broken down by gender.
Response:
From 2000 to 2024, there was an average of about 20,700 civil marriages and 4,900 Muslim marriages a year. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth does not track the further breakdown requested.
