Busking at food centres

Response to parliamentary question on allowing busking at food centres

Written PQ 5871: To ask the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth whether the Ministry will consider allowing busking or singers at food centres to provide a conducive environment for diners at the food centres.

  1. The National Arts Council (NAC) actively explores partnerships with venue owners interested in offering their spaces as busking locations. Venue owners would have to consider if busking fits the venue’s identity and if it would be well-received by existing stakeholders.
  2. Presently, there are over 80 designated busking locations across Singapore. These include spots next to Fengshan, Telok Blangah, and Changi Village food centres. In December 2023, NAC partnered with the FairPrice Group to offer a busking location in Lau Pa Sat.
  3. NAC will continue collaborating with interested venue partners to designate and expand the number of suitable busking locations, including areas offering F&B.
