Display of National Flag during National Day celebrations period
Displaying the National Flag during the National Day celebrations period (1 July to 30 September 2018)
29 June 2018
- Singapore will celebrate its 53rd anniversary as an independent sovereign nation on 9 August 2018. The National Flag is Singapore’s most visible symbol of statehood, a symbol of our national unity and resilience.
- As such, we urge all organisations and households to fly the National Flag at their offices, building premises, and residential premises during the National Day celebrations period, 1 July to 30 September 2018. The Rules for flying the National Flag or displaying it are relaxed during this period, when the Flag may be flown without a flagpole and night illumination.
-
Notwithstanding the relaxed rules, the Flag, as a national symbol, should continue to be treated with respect, and used in an appropriate and dignified manner. Torn or worn-out Flags should not be displayed, and should be packed into a sealed black trash bag before being disposed of. The full guidelines on the display and use of the Flag can be viewed here.
