National Flag may now be displayed with immediate effect till end of National Day celebrations period

All organisations and households may display the National Flag till 30 September 2020 to rally Singaporeans.

  1. In response to public requests to display the National Flag during this period to rally Singaporeans, all organisations and households may display the National Flag at their offices, building premises, and residential premises with immediate effect until the end of the National Day celebrations period on 30 September 2020.
  2. Amid the COVID-19 situation, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) has received a number of requests from members of the public who are keen to display the National Flag as a demonstration of unity and solidarity with others in society, even as we may be physically apart. With the President’s assent, the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem (SAFNA) Rules have been amended to permit the display of the Flag without a flagpole and night illumination from 25 April 2020 to 30 June 2020. This brings forward the period in which the flag may be displayed and will continue into the usual National Day celebrations period from 1 July to 30 September.
  3. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu said, “It is heartening to know that Singaporeans want to rally around the National Flag - an emblem of our shared values, identity and future. It is also a call for us to work together and stand resilient in the face of a crisis like this. This exemplifies the Singapore Together spirit.”
  4. The Flag, as a national symbol, should continue to be treated with respect, and used in an appropriate and dignified manner. Torn or worn-out Flags should not be displayed and should be packed into a sealed black trash bag before being disposed of. The full guidelines on the display and use of the Flag can be viewed at: https://go.gov.sg/nationalflag.
