Commissioner of Charities extends the suspension of fund-raising appeals conducted by Crisis Centre (Singapore)

The Commissioner of Charities has suspended the conduct of any fund-raising appeal by Crisis Centre (Singapore) for a further period of 3 months.

  1. The Commissioner of Charities (COC) has suspended the conduct of any fund-raising appeal by Crisis Centre (Singapore) (“Crisis Centre” or “the Charity”) for a further period of 3 months, starting from 15 February 2020 and ending on 14 May 2020.
  2. The COC had earlier issued an order under Section 39B(1A) of the Charities Act (“the Suspension Order”) to suspend the conduct of any fund-raising appeal by Crisis Centre for charitable, benevolent or philanthropic purposes for a period of 6 months, with effect from 15 August 2019. This was done to protect the public, pending investigations into Crisis Centre’s fund-raising appeals, pursuant to feedback received.
  3. The Ministry of Social and Family Development (“MSF”), the Sector Administrator overseeing Crisis Centre, has informed the COC that it requires more time to finalise its investigations. To ensure the continued protection of the public pending MSF’s investigations, the COC has extended the Charity’s Suspension Order until 14 May 2020.
  4. During this period, the Charity can continue with its daily operations. MSF will render assistance to the men in the shelter if required.
