Speech by Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development, at the Lions Club of Singapore Yuan Mandarin Charter Nite, at Quan Xi restaurant, Safra Jurong
Good evening everyone.
Thank you for inviting me to join you this evening for the Lions Club of Singapore Yuan Mandarin Charter Nite. Very honoured to be here to witness the new club being chartered.
The Lions Club of Singapore Yuan Mandarin was sponsored by Lions Club of Singapore Khatib Mandarin. Its objective of serving the needs of the community, needy families and senior citizens residing in the western region of Singapore, is a laudable one.
The Club has already garnered 86 members from the start and will be joining the community of Lions Club members, a 2187-strong fraternity from 79 Lions Clubs in Singapore. Everyone who joins the Club, shares a common vision, to improve the lives of thousands of elderly and underprivileged households.
This is done through various initiatives such as Lions Home for The Elders, Lions Befrienders Service Association and Lions Community Foundation Service, Lions Savesight Centre and Lions International Stamp Club. In turn, you are reaching out and touching the lives of more than thousands of beneficiaries. For that, I would like to thank you for all your tireless effort.
Community effort such as this by the Lions Club is important. I would like to assure you, that your unwavering commitment to the community is well-noted. The Government will also continue to do its part and together, we can all help to make Singapore a better Home, where everyone can enjoy a better quality of life.
I would like to conclude by expressing my heartfelt appreciation again to all members, staff, and donors who have contributed towards building an inclusive and harmonious society in Singapore.
I am sure the Lions Club of Singapore Yuan Mandarin will continue to expand its reach, and will grow from strength to strength under the new leadership team. Let us all continue to make a difference to the lives of Singaporeans!
Thank you.
