Singapore's Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Lawrence Wong and Indonesia's Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Imam Nahrawi, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to renew the commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation on youth and sports development.
Mr Wong, also the Chairman of National Youth Council (NYC), said, “Singapore places great importance on its longstanding bilateral relations with Indonesia. Both countries have made considerable efforts to engage each other in different areas of cooperation, including people-to-people exchanges. This renewed agreement will enable our athletes, youths and agencies to have more opportunities for collaborations with their counterparts in Indonesia.”
In 1988, Singapore and Indonesia signed an MOU on youth and sports cooperation, with the aim of strengthening friendship between the two countries. This latest MOU will supersede the one signed in 1988, and it will continue to strengthen bilateral relations between Singapore and Indonesia through youth and sports programmes. Both countries will explore cooperation in areas related to youth volunteerism, leadership development, and youth creativity, as well as exchanges between athletes, officials and sports agencies.
The MOU was signed during President Joko Widodo's visit to Singapore, which will end on 29 July 2015.
