Response to parliamentary question for more information on SCIS such as admission requirements and support for students.
*470. Ms Hazlina Abdul Halim: To ask the Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs (a) what will be the admission requirements for the Singapore College of Islamic Studies (SCIS); (b) what is the profile of its faculty; (c) what are some scholarships that SCIS plans to offer to better support students; and (d) how will the SCIS collaborate and partner with Muslim organisations.
Response:
Efforts to establish the Singapore College of Islamic Studies (SCIS) are underway. These are led by the Steering Committee, chaired by Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir.
Such efforts include establishing the SCIS’ admission criteria, developing its course curriculum, and appointing faculty and staff. Course fees and financial support for students, including scholarships, are also being determined.
The SCIS will partner closely with local and international institutions. For instance, it is partnering the Singapore University of Social Sciences for the Social Sciences pathway, and Dar al-Ifta in Egypt, Al-Qarawiyyin in Morocco and University of Jordan for the Islamic Studies pathway.
More details will be shared ahead of the first intake of students in 2028.
