Response to parliamentary question on support for the film sector under the SG Culture Pass

231. Mr Fadli Fawzi: To ask the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (a) whether there are any plans to include films as one of the eligible Arts and Heritage subsectors for the SG Culture Pass; and (b) if no, why not.

Response:

  1. The SG Culture Pass programme was introduced on 1 Sep 2025. Its main objective is to enhance access of Singaporeans to local arts and heritage and to help local arts and heritage groups. Since 1 Sep 25, over 400 programmes – including plays, concerts, heritage tours and workshops - have been put on the SG Culture Pass.

  2. The Government would want to support local films as part of supporting local artists and local works. These are films that are written, directed, or produced by Singaporeans. Therefore, MCCY is in discussion with the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), which takes place from end-November 2025, to include eligible local film programmes and activities in the Culture Pass programme.

  3. MCCY will also discuss with cinema operators on the technical feasibility of bringing local films that are screened in cinemas onboard the SG Culture Pass.
