Response to parliamentary question on the progress of investigations into allegations of questionable halal certification practices by Muis
Question
Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap: To ask the Minister for Social and Family Development and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs what is the progress of investigations into allegations of questionable halal certification practices by Muis' Halal Certification Strategic Unit.
Response
Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs & Minister for Social and Family Development:
Muis takes a serious view towards the allegations made earlier this year against Muis by foreign online media in relation to the recognition of Foreign Halal Certificate Bodies (FHCBs). Muis has since set up an internal investigation team, led by Deputy Chief Executive, Dr Albakri Ahmad.
An Independent Review Panel (IRP) was also formed to investigate the complaint and review the findings of the investigation team. The IRP comprises members who do not have any executive roles in Muis. The IRP is chaired by Muis Council member and retired audit director from the Auditor-General's Office, Mr Abdul Hamid Abdullah.
The investigations are still ongoing.
