Response to parliamentary question on whether events and performances using spaces rented from the Arts House Limited are subjected to the guidelines by the National Arts Council.

Oral PQ 4770. Ms He Ting Ru: To ask the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth whether events and performances using spaces rented from Arts House Limited are subjected to the National Arts Council's content or funding guidelines.

  1. The Arts House Limited (AHL) is a public company limited by guarantee set up by the National Arts Council (NAC). NAC appoints AHL to manage arts spaces at The Arts House (formerly known as Old Parliament House), Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall, Goodman Arts Centre, Stamford Arts Centre, Aliwal Arts Centre and Drama Centre. Spaces like The Arts House hold special historical significance and are protected as National Monuments.

  2.  As a steward of public resources, the NAC provides funding guidelines that are publicly available on its website. The AHL observes these funding guidelines in its venue rental process and requirements and makes them known to all potential venue hirers.

  3. As part of the AHL's Terms and Conditions of venue hire, hirers will also have to obtain the necessary licences and approvals that are required by public agencies, which include the Arts Entertainment License (AEL) administered by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) for the staging of arts performances.
